Katie Mawson

who we are and where we began

We are a small, established designer knitwear company, run by Katie and Chris, designing and making special knitted, felted accessories from our garden studio in the Lake District.

Everything, including our knitted ladies hats, scarves and gloves, is carefully made by ourselves, with the help of our knitters Kerry and Norman. Katie carefully hand finishes every piece, felting them for extra softness, hand stitching, and labelling them as genuinely made in England. We also take care of packing and posting items to our customers in the UK, USA, Australia, Canada, South Africa and beyond, together with all before and after sales support.

We think the key to our continuing success is our hands-on approach and passion for designer knitwear fashion, as well as our attention to detail, and commitment to knitwear quality.

Katie set up her business in 1991 after graduating from Camberwell Art School with a degree in textile design.

She started out from an old railway arch near Brixton before moving to the more spacious Clockwork Studios in Camberwell. Originally home to Fred Karno’s Fun Factory in the early 1900’s, featuring Stan Laurel and Charlie Chaplin, this building has since been transformed into a honeycomb of studio spaces for the use of Artists and Designer Makers.

Here, Katie’s work evolved and changed over the years. She started with hand knitted jumpers and went on to create a children’s wear collection, before perfecting her range of felted accessories and special cushions and throws.

Katie’s husband, Chris, joined the business in 2000, and shortly thereafter they moved North to the Lake District where they continue to develop and expand their range, selling to stockists in Europe, the USA, South East Asia and Australia.
